The News available to OHAFIA-TV News has revealed that a Nigerian student from Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Master Eugene Olugu, has broken record as the best graduating student from a high school in Canada.
He has joined the retinue and rank of Nigeria students who have continued to make the country proud by making history in a high school in Canada.
He is a recipient of the following distinguished awards:
1.. KTS Leadership Award
2.. University Entrance Scholarship award
3.. IMHOTEP Legacy Award Scholarship
4.. Got accepted in 3 different Universities including the prestigious Dalhousie University
5… Got shortlisted for a summer job with a TOP LAW FIRM
Reacting to the feat, Master Eugene Olugu, whose parents migrated to Canada when he was 3 said it is a good thing that he made history in the school. He expressed gratitude to the school that helped him academically, especially his Black academic advisor, Ms. Cyndi Cain, and his parents, Dr. and Pastor Mrs Esther Olugu Ukpai whom he said “ were always encouraging him and giving him all the needed push to excel.”
On what he wants to do in the future, Eugene said that he want to be a medical Doctor to be able to go back home and help children who are dying of malaria. “I want to be a Doctor and help out the needy children without help”.
When asked why he wants to be a medical Doctor?, He said
“My parents took me home for the first time in the summer of 2019 where I volunteered with CHAMA to work in the operating theatre with the medical Doctors. I saw the need for medical Doctors first hand. That alone inspired me.”
“My Dad who also was the best graduating student from high school in his days always challenged me to beat his records, requesting that everything I need he will get it for me”, he said.
OHAFIA-TV News recalls that Eugene’s parents lost one of their twin daughters- named Goodness to malaria needlessly at 16 months. In her honour, they founded Challenge AIDS and Malaria in Africa (CHAMA), a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Canada in her honour to help other children from malaria and other poverty deaths.
With over 49,000 volunteers from 99 countries of the world, CHAMA NGO is said to have carried out over 600 surgeries, built schools, orphanages and empowered over 100 single mothers in sewing school, giving them sewing machine on graduation.
Indeed, there’s a future for this shining star in the task of a better future.
