In an impressive display of talent and dedication, two brothers from Ohafia, Southeast Nigeria, Eme and Uma Olugu Ukpai, have qualified to represent Halifax in the Canadian Basketball National Men’s Championship. This remarkable achievement marks a milestone for the siblings, who are also the sons of renowned humanitarian and CEO of Challenge AIDS and Malaria in Africa (CHAMA), Dr. Olugu Ukpai.

Eme, competing in the U15 category, and Uma, representing the U17 category, have demonstrated exceptional skill and passion for the sport. Their selection to represent Halifax in the national championship is a testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence.

The Ukpai brothers’ achievement is all the more remarkable given their family’s long-standing dedication to humanitarian work. Their father, Dr. Olugu Ukpai, has been at the forefront of the fight against malaria and other poverty-related diseases in Africa for nearly two decades. Through CHAMA, a volunteer-based organization, the Ukpai family has been instrumental in saving countless lives, providing over 800 free medical surgeries, and supporting poverty alleviation initiatives.

Despite their family’s extensive humanitarian efforts, the Ukpai brothers have remained focused on their education and professional basketball development. Their success in basketball serves as an inspiration to young athletes and underscores the importance of balancing academic and extracurricular pursuits.

The Canadian Basketball National Men’s Championship promises to be an exciting event, with the Ukpai brothers set to make a significant impact. As they take to the court, they will not only be representing Halifax but also their family’s legacy of service and dedication to making a positive difference in the world.
