Dr. Ukpai, a renowned humanitarian, attributes his life’s purpose to the support he received from Dalhousie University during a pivotal moment in his life.

It was during his time at Dalhousie University that Dr. Ukpai received the devastating news that his daughter, Goodness, had passed away due to malaria. The sudden loss could have shattered his world, but the outpouring of support from the university community, particularly from Professor Barb Hamilton-Hinch, the then Black Students’ Advisor, helped him find hope.

“The support I received from Dalhousie University was overwhelming,” Dr. Ukpai recalled. “Professor Hamilton-Hinch stood by me, offering guidance and comfort during my darkest hour. That selfless act inspired me to dedicate my life to serving humanity.”
